Newton’s first law states that a body at rest or in uniform motion will remain as such unless acted upon by an external force. This tendency to resist change is called inertia. While Newton was a clever guy, he probably never thought his laws would be applied to a fitness journey!  Overcoming our initial inertia requires some external force—motivation, a decision, or perhaps a conversation with someone who cares about our wellbeing.

Have you ever felt stuck, stopped exercising, and found yourself trapped in inertia? You’re not alone. In our brains, we have a cognitive bias called the Status Quo Bias—a tendency to do nothing or remain unchanged. This bias is about resisting change, sticking to the familiar, and avoiding anything that feels different. This can often happen when we start WAFA. We begin in a highly motivated state, showing up to our three Sweat & Strength sessions, flying high, and feeling our mind and body in that positive state. Then, sometimes, something happens—a family situation, injury, a change in mood, or getting a little bored with the workouts. Our motivation dips, we grind to a halt, and then get caught up in inertia. We know we need to get back to it, but for whatever reason, we just can’t. We’re stuck in inertia.

So, how do we get ourselves back on track? Let Teresa show you why this happens, how it serves you, and what you can do to shift from inertia to action. Break free from being ‘stuck’ to ‘doing’ and step back into a more active and fulfilling life.
